Three Great Eras of Porsche Cars

There are an infinite number of cars on the road across the world, and some are more sought after than others. Undoubtedly, one of the most popular, and envied cars in world is the Porsche. There is a reason why the hero in action movies is often seen driving a Porsche. The car instantly presents the hero as a man of wealth and elegance. This quickly establishes the hero as a "somebody". Yes, the Porsche can evoke a powerful image and it has done so since 1964. There have been a lot of Porsche styles created through the years and several of them were better than others. Surely it can be said, that each model had something worthwhile and this is the reason they sold very well. We should examine the three best known models.

The Porsche 911:
While the Porsche 911 was in production until 1989, it is the "A and B" models that were produced between 1964 and 1969 that are the nearest and dearest to our hearts. There were various reasons for this and, of course, the primary reasons were look and performance. This was an awesome looking car that drove very, very fast. That is why it appealed to the wealthy and the thrill seekers who grew up with the images of the rebellious, fast driving James Dean. In fact, a third reason actually exists: prestige. Owning a Porsche was a huge status symbol during the late 1960's, and today is an icon that defined a decade.

The Porsche 914: The Porsche 914 was an immensely popular model in the 1970's. While not as breathtaking as the Porsche 911, the Porsche 914 did have certain merits. Different eras will have different tastes, and the look of the Porsche 914 was different from the Porsche 911. The model featured a lowered ride as well an an engine in the rear. It didn't look and feel like a Porsche. It remained popular for several years, even though Porsche's popularity started to wane in the late 1970's.

The Porsche 944: As the 1980s dawned, Porsche had a very successful release with the model 944. The Porsche 944's legacy is that the model is known as the one that delivered Porsche from obscurity. That's quite an important title, but is it an overstatement? Truly this is no exaggeration. The sales of Porsche had decreased significantly and the future of the automaker was doubtful. Along came the Porsche 944, which was a big hit. Sales of the Porsche 944 provided a shot in the arm to a brand that was quickly declining. It can be stated that 944 might be the most important auto in the entire history of Porsche.

Porsche's legacy began with the production of the Porsche 356 in the first part of the 20th century. Since then, Porsche has released a variety of models and created a legacy of excellence in automobile manufacturing. Even though the Porsche had its highs and lows through the years, it is believed that Porsche will stay popular far into the future.
