Q: Is the Porsche Cayman an "everyday" type of car?
I was thinking about getting the Porsche Cayman, but I've heard time and time again from family and other older people that it is not an everyday type of car. What gives it this reputation? Is it that it's in the shop alot, can't handle the stress of a 4-5 day week during the summer, or something else?
A: A Porsche is a nice car and it gets that reputation because it is expensive. When people think daily driver (DD) they think cheap not only cheap to buy but cheap to service and fix. Your Porsche there is neither of those a oil change costs about 100 dollars alone. But could it handle the 4-5 days of being used as a DD, yes and probably better than nearly every other car out there. Porsches are German they are designed with the Autobahn in mind so you know they are a good car. The 2 seats and the RWD make it less of a daily driver depending on your situation and where you live. I would say if its the car you like and want then go for it they do look badass on the road.
Q: I wanna get a porsche cayman?
Im 15, and ive liked porsches for a while.... for my first car I want a porsche cayman sport! how can I get it??????
A: Me too.
The Porsche Cayman S is my dream car.
All you need to do to get one is to get a job making about $60,000 per year. And then you will be able to buy it after 3 years of saving unless you buy an expensive house too.
Or if you want to buy it after 1 year of working, get a job making $100,000+ per year.
The car costs on average $65,000.
Q: Your choice with reason: BMW M3, Cadillac CTS-V or Porsche Cayman S?
What do you guys (car buffs) think about these 3 cars; alone and in comparison with each other?
A: Lol at the technical fail...like all other Porsches the Cayman is rear-engined. Not mid-engined.
I'd take the M3, because if I wanted a Porsche I wouldn't pay 17k extra for what is essentially a hardtop Boxster, and as they say, the Cayman is for people who are too cheap to buy the 911, but it's actually very near a base price 911...
The M3 has more kit, a better sounding and better performing engine, better looks, and it's not particularly heavy unlike the more powerful CTS-V.
Q: Which Is FASTER? A Porsche Cayman OR A Porsche Boxter?
Which Is FASTER? A Porsche Cayman OR A Porsche Boxter??? Im Tryin To Decide. PLEASE HELP!?!?!?!?!?!
A: A Cayman is essentially a Boxster coupe, while the Boxster is a convertible Cayman... as such, they are very similar and this is the same question as "which is faster? A Carrera Coupe, or a Carrera Cabriolet?" The differences here will be small, but there will be a difference.
A Coupe is naturally stiffer and capable of higher performance due to the better body structure. Further, in order to make up for the rigidity lost as a convertible, additional bracing is added to the convertible which adds weight and will still not make up all of the difference. So the Cayman will be a little lighter than the Boxster, and have a stiffer unibody.
So, for 99.5% of possible situation, the Cayman will be faster than the Boxster, although only very slightly. But, under very specific circumstances, the Boxster will be quicker: the extra weight being lower down, combined with a more flexible body could make the Boxster quicker given the right combination of low speed corners, but again, only a small difference. For every other situation the Cayman will be a little bit ahead of a similarly optioned Boxster.
Q: Porsche Cayman or Carrera?
Ok, So I was unsure to go for a Porsche or Corvette (was more inclined toward Porsche), but now, I'm pretty sure I'm convinced to get a brand new Porsche. However, the decision is now between a Cayman or Carrera. I will have to spend twice as much to get buy a Carrera, but is it really worth it? I do afford it, but I'm thinking is it worth changing the experience by paying 40k more?
I'm a 32 year old orthodontist, if it makes any difference.
Thanks.
A: Some slightly odd answers so far! From the always present "buy a 'vette" answer from someone would couldn't understand the choices given to the mention of "ONLY" a 1-3 second difference in lapping performance (which is a massive difference). And then the whole entry level bit with references to the 924 and 944? Anyway:
Both are excellent cars, but there are some important differences. The Cayman is possibly the best chassis Porsche has yet produced, and it's performance potential is greater than they've so far used - though it's no more detuned than is any other Porsche; if it was outfitted with a larger engine it would have been faster than some other models, but the same can be said of almost any model (hey, if you outfitted the Cayman with an RS Spyder engine it would be as fast as a Carrera GT and cost less, clearly Porsche is detuning things!).
The Carrera on the other hand features Porsche's most developed chassis, and what has proven it's most successful platform going back long before the implementation of it's current version.
The Cayman is quick, agile, and an extremely easy car to drive. The S version is a great performance package, and the upcoming Clubsport looks like it will be a great improvement on the S as far as pure performance (and likely a future darling for collectors). On the downside, while it supposedly has more space than the Carrera for luggage and such, it is segmented and awkward making for much less usable space. The engine location combines with the design of the hardtop to make the interior cockpit unusually susceptible to engine heat (something I've never found with the Boxster).
The Carrera lacks the balance of the Cayman, though the current chassis evolution is very nearly as rigid, and not far behind (though driving it in a performance application will require more finese). The Carrera has more functionality than the Cayman, both for day to day living as well as if you happen to partake in track events (that is, you can fit four wheels with race rubber inside a Carrera where you'll need a trailer to do that with the Caymen... though either of these cars will be great in that environment once you get them there).
Which is best though is really which you prefer! Look at them both and drive them both and see what you like. If I were buying one now, I'd probably be holding out to take a look at the Cayman Clubsport... but given it's projected cost or even that of a lightly optioned Cayman S, I'd most likely have a hard time justifying that over paying a little less for a 996 GT3. Whichever way you go, get what you want and remember that this is a very good market for a buyer, so be picky, take your time, and enjoy what you get!
Q: Lotus Evora or Porsche Cayman?
Both are about the same price, similar specification, hard core sports cars. Which one would you go for and why?
A: Lotus every time.
Porsche's are two a penny, but how many Lotus's have you seen this week? Plus they look better, sound better and aren't driven by second division footballers who wish they could afford a 911.
Q: what are the gear ratios for the 5-speed porsche cayman?
A: what year?
Q: basic porsche cayman V. BMW M Z4 coupe?
i was wondering what would be the best choice. the only thing that i lean towards more is the porsche because of its status and renouned better quality than today's BMW cars. im not sure if that has not recently changed, but its important because i wont be very well-off after buying one of these cars. the other problem would be, what if i wanted to sell the car off? i think the porsche would have a better chance. can someone give me a good opinion?
A: Of the two, I think the Porsche's quality and resale value is better. I also like the look...to the untrained eye, it will look like a 911.
But here's the best answer -- don't buy either. You said you're going to be "very well-off after buying".
If that isn't a reason to change your plans, I don't know what is.
Take it from someone who knows -- neither one of those cars is going to make you happy or change your life. Sure, they're going to be fun. You'll probably get to meet some people that you otherwise wouldn't have. You may even get some sort of anonymous thumbs up from a complete stranger because he or she likes your ride. But ask yourself, "Why do I want this?".
If you find the answer has anything to do with ego you should consider therapy, not euro sports cars.
Q: BMW 5 series or Porsche Cayman which is better?
please give alot of details
A: What's better, an apple or an orange? It all depends on what you're after, as they're very different cars. Call the Porsche and BMW dealers and make an appointment to go drive the cars, and decide for yourself.
Q: rough cost of insurance on porsche cayman ( range?)?
living in new mexico
A: More than you can afford...
Q: Porsche Cayman S or Lotus Exige?
i am a big fan of the Cayman (which Jeremy Clarkson likes to call it the Coxster bcuz of the Boxster) but when i saw the lotus exige the other day, i liked it a lot since its smaller than the cayman. My plans were to save up for a used cayman in 2011 the most. But then i like to go to the track and (based on reviews and rants i heard) the cayman is not the car to take to the track. i would like to dump some money into it but it would not be ready for frequent track use when it heads out the dealership door. the exige though, is ready to kill Willow Springs, which is near where i live. i dont really care about leather seats or climate control, and thats what makes the exige better. IDK i need a beater that i can take to the track regularly and still kick ass on the street. Point is i want to have a car that spins heds and is kinda uncommon. And no do not try to tell me that the challenger is a better car, bcuz i dont really care 4 it...
A: I bought a used Cayman in Pennsylvania last week and saved a lot. I haven't had any problems yet. I only buy used cars. http://www.findusedcardealer.com
Q: Porsche Cayman S or Jaguar XK?
I've been trying to decide for a while which car I'm going to buy and I got mine choices down to these 2.
I chose cayman over 911 because I don't really need that much power + since I live at crap place I won't be able to drive it REALLY fast anyway + its cheaper.
Of course I'll test drive both but I wouldn't mind for 3rd person opinion.
I've been reading/watching reviews and really can't decide, both look good and are good cars.
So if anyone got any info to share, or got one of these please do.
Thanks all for answers, guess I know what I will be getting :)
A: If it was me i'd go for the Jag. One of the best looking cars out at the moment and has a great sounding V8 combined with the luxury interior.
Im not a fan of the Cayman S but against the Jag it is considerably cheaper to buy and also is a little bit more economical, 24mpg against 27mpg. The Porsche does have better handling and accelerates quicker then the 1600kg Jag but for me this is irrelevant for every day driving and the Jag isn't exactly what you'd call slow.
Q: Porsche Cayman or BMW 330 Ci convertible?
I'm looking for a slightly-used car, and I've narrowed my search down to these two. I realize the Cayman is somewhat impractical (2-seater, relatively little trunk space), but it's so beautiful! I also love the BMW. Any thoughts on which would make a better car?
BTW - this will be my daily driver (but, i'm not against sports cars as daily drivers as that it what i currently have).
A: -the porsche will make you feel good every day....in terms of a rewarding driving experience
-the porsche will be more dependable
-the porsche will hold its value higher & longer
-the porsche is better assembled
they are both expensive to own & maintain over the long term, but in terms of car ownership the bmw remains a "commodity" while the porsche remains a driving experience and ownership delight.
Q: Escalade or Porsche Cayman?
im getting my first car and i've been thinking between these two if you had to pick one which would you pick and which is better
My parents took me to look at both of these so yea my parents are buying it for me i just dont know which one to get.
A: ~firstly, wow, you are one lucky dude.. xD
ok, the Cayman has all the performance, but it is impractical, meaning limited space. However, it holds its value veery well.
and, the Escalade is all comfort, a spacious luxury cruiser. However, it is still a fuel-guzzler. And an ultimate eye catcher.
~If I were you, I would go for the Escalade. WHY?
-ultimate luxury-comfort
-spacious, seats 7, large cargo space
-holds value better than a Lincoln Navigator
-practical :D
hope this helps~~
Q: Porsche Cayman speed?
are they fast like able to win in a drag race or something. or are they just like a "looks" Car
A: the cayman is pretty fast it more for looks tho. my mom use to have one but we got rid of it. its pretty fast tho
